My name is Sanghamitra Roy and about one year ago, my life changed forever… I was diagnosed with leukemia–a form of blood cancer. This was a huge change from the past four glorious years—the best phase of my life so far. Between 2014-2017, my husband and I received promotion and tenure at our jobs; we received a lot of national and international recognition for our research and travelled several countries of the world with our child. However, since my diagnosis, it has been an incredible journey and I would not have been able to fight this without my two warriors: my husband Koushik and my son Deep.
If you are like most human beings, you take your health for granted. Especially when you are young, you don’t think about being sick or dying. You think you and your children are safe and will always remain healthy with the things that you do to safeguard your family.

It first started when I was in my high school class in Providence High. It was just a regular day, doing the same old stuff, but that particular day I happened to feel dizzy, I started sweating profusely; my eyes kept shaking while I became ghostly pale and constant shivering. Next thing you know I had a fever, so they sent me home. I happened to have this pimple looking bump on my left forearm, which hurt by the way, and it happened to pop and leave this scar that I still have today.
