Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a disorder that is often hard to explain or qualify. Those who suffer from autism fall on a spectrum, with degrees of severity at either end. Autism and its related disorders are qualified with several diagnostic criteria, including a difficulty in communicating, following abstract concepts, and difficulty using language, among others. No two cases of autism are alike, and you will often here people say, “if you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.” Essentially, this means that everyone on the spectrum is a bit different from each other. For example, many children and adults who are autistic are non-verbal throughout their life, but those with Asperger’s syndrome (a different part of the autism spectrum), may talk nonstop.

Health and Anxiety
Having anxiety can force us to focus more on ourselves and our health. The goal is to limit our anxiety as best as we can. In addition to talking with a psychiatrist and/or therapist as well as taking any needed medication, there are many steps we can take as far as health is concerned. We can start with a balanced diet. In addition to eating a balanced diet, it is important to eat regular small meals throughout the day. Also, staying hydrated is important. Not being in optimal health alone can trigger anxiety.

Anxiety and Self Care
Taking excellent care of ourselves can be easier said than done. Having anxiety can make tasks feel more difficult. Especially if our anxiety has been building for hours, days or even weeks. It is imperative that we create a life full of self care. We must practice daily hygiene, practice hobbies, relax and get an adequate amount of sleep. Anxiety can feel endless and relentless. However, we can practice good self care, push through our day and thrive through our tasks. The first step is creating a daily routine. The second step is sticking to our routine. This will give us strength through our anxiety.

Children learn more from peers not parents
It requires commitment and patience to teach mindfulness to your kids. We want to make it fun for kids to learn the art of deep breathing.
Research suggests that mindful meditation can train the ADHD/ADD brain to better concentrate, hold focus, control impulsivity and anger issues.
To help kids understand the underlying message, we suggest you do following:
– Watch the video with you kids
– Record their response like “what they learned from this video?”
– Post their response clips in comments on our YouTube channel/blog
– Hear those response. Nothing cuter than that!
What is stranger anxiety?
This is usually demonstrated by crying when an unknown or unfamiliar person approaches. Normally it starts at about 8 – 9 months and usually subsides by age 2 yr. Stranger anxiety is related with the child’s developmental task of distinguishing the acquainted from the unacquainted. Both the duration and intensity of the nervousness(anxiety) vary greatly among kids.
Some babies show a strong preference for one parent over another at a certain age, and grandparents may suddenly be viewed as strangers. Anticipating these happenings during visits helps prevent misinterpretation of the behavior. Comforting the child and avoiding overreaction to the behavior are usually the only therapy needed.
